Technology meets warmth in the latest design of the revitalized Surgical Training Institute located in Ponderas Academic Hospital, part of Regina Maria private healthcare. Prographic Architecture Studio team strategically created this project to reflect Surgical Training Institute’s mission of helping surgeons, students and nurses acquire the knowledge and skills needed to use new technologies, in a balanced and adequately equipped space.
The overall aesthetics reflects Surgical Training Institute’s strong identity in the use of selected materials, which highlight a feel-good atmosphere. The classroom, operating room and even the corridors enjoy a sense of generosity, allowing people to move easily in the building.
The architects’ goal was to create a collaborative space meant to be energizing, perfect for communal gathering and educational purpose. The sophisticated Gerflor Creation 70 LVT, with its realistic wood look, flows naturally through the classroom, while delivering exceptional quality, durability and performance.
To guarantee impact resistance, this project was equipped with Gerflor’s SPM Wall Protection panels which provide a level of hygiene and easy maintenance. Developed for areas with high infection risks, Decochoc – a 100% antibacterial range- can resist to 320 kg at 3 km/h impacts.
Nonporous materials, such as ceramic tiles, reduce the potential for contaminants and increase the likelihood of having a clean and safe environment. The elevator area is “wrapped” in Laminam I Naturali Pietra, a porcelain slab with an antique and precious feel of natural stone, that is immune to the passing of time.
The mission of improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice inspired the architectural design for Surgical Training Institute project.
